What do you use to remove paint from Nickel Silver rail heads that won't ruin electrical continuity?
Thanks to all for your responses in advance.

Lacquer thinner

Absolutely!!! Wrap a soft cotton rag (red shop rags work great) tightly around a short piece of 1"X 2" pine wood. Moisten the rag, then wipe the rails.
Edited: Darned spell check.
Why would I want my rails white?
MWB,
Thank you. Is there a "right"&'wrong" way to do this & safety precautions to be used? I'm thinking ventilation is important 1st for human safety. I never did this,so I'm assuming use a rag and wipe the rail until clean.(?) Then do I follow up with something else to remove the cleaner itself before running trains on the rail?
Thank you.

The solvent in the thinner will evaporate.

Use just enough to do the job on a rag or even paper towel to minimize the fumes; bag the trash up and take it outside to finish evaporating. Leave open only just enough to do the job. Put a fan in the doorway if you are concerned. Oh, power off the track,
There won't be anything to remove after that's done. Wipe it down with a dry rag or paper towel if you want.
MWB,
Thank you,much appreciated.

HOLD IT, there is a better way. BEFORE you paint the rails take and put just a little Vaseline on your finger and lightly wipe the TOP of the rail. Spray away. Let dry. Lightly wipe with a dry clean rag, and the paint is gone, the track is clean! All is good in your model world! Russ
