I got an e-mail asking how I painted the wheels/hubs of the cars in my thread showing my converted 'Streets cars so perfectly circular. I thought I'd share the answer with everyone.
Ipaint the wheels with the body off the car. To paint the rear wheels, I connect two D cell batteries to the motor terminal directly, which spins the wheels, then hold a fine paintbrush up to the spinning wheel. To paint the front wheels, I set up the thing shown below, just a big flywheel can motor with a flywheel: I alligator clip just one battery to this big puppy - two makes it go too fast -- and hold the oppsite wheel on an axle against the flywheel, spinning it, and again use the brush. By the way, I tried the obvious: putting the body in a vice and turning the opposite wheel with my finger, but this motor-driven method works best. I painted the wheels on nearly every conversion I did that way.
Normally I'd have a brush in the hand holding the camera for this shot. The motor and wheel were actually spinning, slowly, when I took this shot.
