P&LE bay window caboose

Ken,

Lionel did a half bay NYC caboose.  I don't know how correct it is.  I have one on the shop layout.  I will try to take some photos for you tomorrow.

Anyone have suggestions where I can get drawings of this caboose or is there one on display somewhere?  Looks like I will have to do some cutting to make one scale.

While not answering your last question, had you considered modelling the longer International-built 51x series cars, some of which made it into this scheme ?

I had an MTH bay window caboose with this P&LE paint and decoration. As I recall the caboose was quite similar in style to the one shown in the photos. I believe it was from 10-12 years ago.

Ken, here is a link to one the cabooses Dave referenced. It was offered in brown and jade green. Either would work for you. They are pretty close except for the windows which would be easy to fill in.

 BTW could your picture show the caboose in its later days? It may have had the same windows when first built but filled in due to the prevalence of vandalism in later years.

The MTH model is very generic and has a full bay.  It is in the 2015 V2 catalog again.

I have a few models that Malcolm 'Brother Love' scratch built.  They are very nice.  Might be an option???

I think this will end up being a complete scratch build or a major cut up.  Trainorders.com had a great piece on where the prototype cabooses are now.  Look like I need to put the camera and tape measure in the car and plan a trip.

The Lionel half bay window is correct. It's very nice buggy too. I have converted it to two rail using Yoder Caboose Trucks.. It is very detailed and nice…

Unfortunately the Lionel cab has windows on the side which could be filled but it the bay window is centered and if you look at the P&LE it has four panels to one side of the window and three to the other.  It's  not centered and is different on each side.  If the car is the right length I could sand off panel lines and put new ones on but the bay window would still need to be moved to make it accurate.
