Could somebody please verify that the Lionel 200 series B unit truck top plates are 218-31C?

That plate is listed for the rear A truck, but my manual does not denote the B unit trucks.  I have a B unit, but I think the top plate with coupler is wrong.

I attached 2 pics.  One is the 218-31C and the other is the one that came off of my B unit.  The really rusty one is the 218-31C.

Thanks for any help guys!!

Lionel always sold it as a complete truck. I don't remember the plate separately.

The Greenberg repair manual lists the plate for the rear A unit truck.  I just cannot find info on the B unit.  I would think they would use the same truck.

The ones on my B unit seem pretty goofy. One thin piece of metal with a C clip and they flop all over.  Maybe that is correct.   I just want to verify.

The Greenberg manual most people reference doesn't have the actual parts lists.

To find your part, you need to look up the first 200-series B unit ever produced which was for the 217. Here is the parts listing.

I believe your part is 217-76 in the truck assembly breakdown below. Now good luck finding it for sale separately!

Ok, it looks like the top plate did have it's own number. Judging by no bin number is listed, they must have had very few to sell separately. Like Greg implied, finding only that part is a needle in a haystack. The whole B unit truck is a tough find, which are not the same as a dummy A truck. The tang instead of a round stud and small clip were used on a few truck assemblies, so yours is factory correct. The picture on the left is for a dummy A unit.

Thank you for that parts list!  But I am trying to verify whether or not I have the correct trucks installed on my B unit based on the pics I provided.

The 218-31C looks identical to the 217-75 from the pics I found on the interwebs.  And if that is the case then it looks like the wrong trucks are on my B unit if you look at my picks.

Here you go. From two different B units. Does this add to your confusion?

Awesome!!!!    Thank you so much!!

It shows they used both trucks in the B units, so the ones I have on mine are a correct version.  I was concerned someone threw some weird trucks on mine just to sell it.

I still may buy a couple 218-31C top plates from trainz and change mine out because I hate all the play in the holes.

One more question, if you peek in between the frame and the top plate, does the truck plate with the nice solid stud have the dome on top of it like the really rusty one in my pic?

The one with the 'dome' is for a dummy A unit, the B unit ones are flat. If you install the dummy A truck, it will look like the unit is constantly running downhill !

Ok, great info!  That's what I needed to know.  I wasn't sure if the studded B top plates had the dome or not.

I will keep my tang'd top plates, lol.

Thank you all for the great help!!

The question is how did a B unit get battery damage, the 217 A unit doesn't have a horn?

Oh ya, sorry.  I picked it up for 20 bucks at an estate sale.  It was a 226 A with a 217 shell. No B unit.

Then I found a 226 A with 217 B for the price of what people were asking for just the B.

Soooooooo..........now I have 2 226 A's (one with 217 A shell) and a 217 B.  Plus I bought a nice 217 A frame so it is the correct frame.

The B I just received and did not have battery damage.  The pics with damage are from the 20 dolla 226/217A

When I pulled the shell on the B the trucks looked weird and I wanted to verify they were correct for the B unit.  I have no PW with floppy tang trucks like that.
