It may be more economical buying a donor car than the part itself as cars in the x2454 series with brown doors are pretty plentiful at bargain prices.
Try contacting Jeff Kane at The Train Tender. He has a lot of junk laying around and may have one.

Every time I buy something intending to use it for parts, I end up repairing it, too. Then I have two of them.
The part number is 9854-12
The correct number for the brown metal door is #2758-12 with latch and #2758-13 plain.

I looked it up on lionels website and thats the correct number for baby ruth car made in 1977
You might check Trainz. I know they use to have a lot of Lionel doors in they're part's department for a couple of bucks each.

1977=Modern
The Babe Ruth X2454 related to this topic was made at the beginning of the postwar period (1945-1969) in 1946 and 1947. The Lionel Website does not have diagrams or period parts for the postwar era. Olsens Toy Train Library has a wonderful resource of documents for this and the prewar era.
Patrick.
Jeff at the Train Tender has both doors. #2758-12 and #2758-13.
