Although, I've upgraded many engines to TMCC. It has been quite some since my last upgrade. I was wondering if anyone has upgraded any of the RTR set steamers? Is there room to add ERR speed control to the engine? Although, I'm not against upgrading to railsounds. Is it possible to retain the original sound board. Do any of the ERR boards provide an offset? Picture of an upgrade anyone?
Can a tetherless install be done?
In general, most consider the RTR set not worth the roughly $200 for the upgrade components. The RTR RailSounds boards in the conventional sets have no provision for command control, so they wouldn't be all that desirable. I suppose you could do a wireless tether, but you'd have to buy all the extra components like the two boards to drive and receive the IR, the actual IR components for the drawbar, etc.
Unless you really like the RTR locomotive, I'd shop for one that already has TMCC and sell that one.
