Just got an invoice from Charles Ro - looks like the Decapods are in 👍🏼 - I’m excited 😊

Same here.
I have two on order and I’m not really looking forward to them after the L1 fiasco. Lionel could ruin an anvil right about now.
At least it’s not a Dreyfuss…

I love Decapods, but have all I need with my two 3rd Rail beauties (one short tender, one long tender). If I recall, this tooling was originally from MTH's 2006 version (gorgeous). Norm, I have a request: Once you work all out their little kinks, how about making a YouTube video of your double-headed Hippos pulling a 100 car beer train? You do have a beer reefer for every bottle in your avatar, right?
George
I’m very curious if the paint is going to be back to the color it was on the last runs of M1a and J1a. I actually stopped ordering new engines from Lionel until they get this sorted out and start buying up older 3rd rail models instead.
They gotta get the paint figured out.
Chris’ Trains and Things just posted his newly arrived Dec on YouTube. Hard to tell but it looks a tad darker than the L1. At least it ain’t chartreuse or something!

Norm, do you just recommend hitting the green areas with several layers of grimy black or a similar paint to tone down the awful green Lionel has been using? I have several engines I need to correct, one being the PRR Class A (FG-1). It looks like a Christmas tree with the red cab roof !
Your weathering on the L1s came out great. Any more tips on correcting the paint while applying a weathered finish is very much appreciated.
I hit my L1 with Dullcote first as usual and was a bit more generous with the Grimy Black. Nothing too over the top though. The idea is not to turn the job into an overly consistent haze. I thought of trying some acrylic filters (like the ones made by Vallejo) but didn't bother as it would have probably been diminishing returns considering that a lot of the detail is actually pretty low relief (typical for diecast). I hope to do the 1369 this weekend. When I get the I1s, I'll probably do them the same way. Chris claims they are a bit darker.
These cost quite a bit more than the L1s and I assume/hope that means they get the Canon driveline. I probably shouldn't have ordered these. Just glad I didn't decide to replace my long lost TMCC Dreyfuss. Good god.

I wish I could post a screen grab, but even the two L1s don’t appear to match. Best seen at 10:24 in the video.
The I1 looks promising! Gotta love every wild color variation on those GLa hoopers. You can see how Lionel went from semi-ok colors to Crayola in one train.
…and for those just can’t fathom why there are color complaints, here’s an example showing some DGLE paint jobs from Lionel’s own recent past (with a vintage Atlas GP7 thrown in):

Looks good in the video. Makes me a little more upset for the L1 considering IT IS POSSIBLE. Should have been corrected a long time ago. Tell the factory in China to keep using that paint on future releases lol.
I heard these are showing up this week in MI. Hoping they are better sorted than the L1s.
I'm still waiting to see the big I1's with the big tender behind. Hopefully there's no bugs in these. Fingers crossed.
The reason I didn't preorder any of these I1s is because I already have a short tender version from MTH, so the long tender was all I was interested in and unfortunately in the Lionel Catalog, it's pictured with the incorrect 180F84 tender (from the Q2).
Both 3rd Rail and MTH got the correct 180/210/250F82 tenders on their versions of the I1sa.
In addition to the shells, does anyone know if Lionel used the same drive-train as the MTH I1? I recall this was the chat when these were announced, such as people were keeping fingers crossed that it's the same drive-train, for lack of more specific word.
Mine is out for delivery today.
Has anyone unboxed their PRR Decapod yet? I'm looking forward to seeing what they look like. I have seen the videos but need more data.
I'm with Randy. Where are the photos and videos. ?? Any powertrain issues?
I've only seen the short buggers, nothing of the Hippos at all. I'm surprised too that no messages of them being in. I know that there was a soon will be in from one outlet, but nothing has arrived. A little curious if there is so much stuff that sorting is what the hold up is.
It’s AWESOME - IMO 😊 - I had about 10 minutes this morning before I had to run - took a quick look and put it back in the box
I love the color - compared to the L1 it’s much darker / deeper
I have no idea how it runs - obviously - boxed nicely - the “Lionel” wrapping around the engine and tender feels softer / heavier to me ???
I have one with the long tender - I’ll try to post a few pics tonight
Thank you
Joe S
PS - after seeing this I can’t wait for the M1😊👍🏼

Just had mine pulling/pushing a dead 2332 GG1 up a double trestle set (2.5%) grade. No issues.
Hope everyone's works as it should.
Meh, that doesn't sound like much of a test John. 😉
Whoa that color looks pretty good!
I am really hoping that there is zero issues at all with the I1's. Given that it is a larger locomotive(not by much) than the L1's, I would hope that the gear of isn't the same, that it is more in tune with the engines that have no gearbox issues like the Mohawks and M1's. Hopefully we'll have an answer quickly and I won't have to worry about putting another engine in shipping to see Pat.
Don’t know what it is or why but for some reason the paint / color looks different in posted pics and video than it does in person ??? - not a complaint just an observation
“In person“ it’s definitely a deeper color - can’t wait to get home and play 😊🚂👍🏼
I do Rick - that’s the contractor in me 🤣 - more black describes it perfectly
Yeah, it should look sort of black. The TMCC K4 I initially thought was black but it's that real dark green.
Yes, a " proper" DLGE looks black until you place it next to something that actually IS black.
Such is the case with my early Legacy M1b.
Color aside, it looks like they got the letter size for PENNSYLVANIA correct this time. Letters should be 7 scale inches tall. If someone is repainting their L1s, I recommend using Clover House's PRR dry transfer lettering sets. They have sets in gold and dulux/buff (freight and post 1952 passenger) cataloged by era. They offer 6 different lengths for the word PENNSYLVANIA so the modeler can match prototype practice for the era and tender size.

Great looking engine, John. I for one appreciate the close coupling distance between engine and tender.
As Ryan said in a past Trainworld interview, the PRR Hippo has been a long time coming for Lionel. Evidently, he is a avid and talented model railroader.
The I1s were a staple, often doubleheader or used in "Snapper" service. For anyone who knows PRR country, it's easy to understand why the PRR needed such a workhorse.
Geez I was hoping not to see that drive setup again. Just got word my two are waiting for me to pick up.
Careful putting it back together. I can see the shim washers stuck to bottom of the cover.

Looks like I'm skipping getting mine
I got mine yesterday and ran it for an hour and a half with no problems.
