...at busch-model.com.  It's painted, and is the DB green 'original' version, but [ as Busch points out ] is not the definitive model, especially on the roof mounted stuff.

  - I think it looks very good.  Apparently MTH/China has actually been able to find wire for the headlights that is smaller than 000 wire gauge.

  - Although not too long ago Busch was saying "in Germany in late September, on dealers' shelves in October", it is now "end of 2013, beginning of 2014".

  - Busch is apparently still having discussions with MTH about the drive train / electronics, especially the high [ > 5a ] current draw which is a seen as a detriment to potential purchasers.

Frankly, I think the "solution" is to sell the European prototype scale wheel models as "DCC ready" rather than with the DCS outfit -- but then I don't know the economics of such a move.

  - The Busch website continues to show "modernized" [ = 2 instead of 3 front windows, inter alia ] for the Austrian versions, suggesting there WILL be two "bodyshell variants".

So, progress, finally.  Interesting there's still no further mention anywhere that I know of regarding that European starter set that Mike himself talked about.

Best regards, SZ

Found their German web page. To easy when you understand the language.
.

Well, we are indeed getting two different models for the price of ....two.  Photos of the green Austrian version appear in the newest MTH catalogue, and I was able to inspect the model at the recent York show.  The Austrian version does have the differences in the short hood ventilation grills, pantographs, window arrangement, headlights, etc.

When I did look at the model at York I felt disappointment for some reason, despite all the changes.  I think part of this was due to the large white lettering for the initials and road number, which I hope is just provisional and that the definitive version will have the classic raised lettering in silver -- however given how MTH botched the numbers on the SBB crocodiles I'm not totally optimistic, even with Busch hopefully exercising veto power.  Another reason was the short hood;  something looked wrong in the grill area, but I'm not sure what it was, if anything.

MTH's Chinese artisans do have a tendancy to oversize many details -- but I think that problem, along with their North American supervision either not knowledgable enough or not caring enough [ from a $ rework standpoint, especially ], is not unique to MTH.

Question:  Were  the Indusi pickup shoes on the Austrian locos mounted in a different location than on the DB ones ?
