I've posted these before: The last HO railroad I was building in 1984 in my parent's basement, for when I was living in an apartment.  It was an expanded "Gum Stump & Snowshoe" designed to fit above my dresser.

The layout became surplus when I moved into a house.  Sold it to a hobby shop (they more or less completed it) and moved up to S Scale.

I'm not really an ho guy but I had some freight cars, a bachman 44 ton loco, a bunch a track from i don't know where and a 7 ft long board.  Always liked the gum stump so i took a shot.  Still a work in progress,  i picked the wrong ballast color but it has been fun.  Straight DC, a single block, all manual switches. To keep it interesting i and operating with a 5v dc wall wort wired through a dpdt automotive toggle.
