I came across this this morning.  David Leider has just published an new book, PICKLE and VINEGAR MAKERS of the MIDWEST. The link is http://vinpic.dhke.com/.  With the number of posts about subject and the K-Line pickle cars, this out to be a popular book.

I fixed the link.  If you go all the way to the ordering page you see the price is $32.95 + $4.95 shipping.  The author appears to be the only source for the book as it doen't show up on amazon and other sites.

I did send him an email asking if he would take paypal.

PS.  He says he does.  So email him for details.

Thanks for posting the information!

I have had only had a little time to peruse my autographed copy of the book.  Seems that David was on his way to Prototype Rails 2016 meet in Coco Beach and had stopped in town to visit his wife's relatives.  Just a long mile from me. Small world.

In my examination I saw more pickle and vinegar cars than I've seen in searches on the internet.  He also has lists of companies and the cars that they owned.  Looks like I can accurately renumber/repaint those K-Line and Lionel cars.  Maybe I'll cause a run on them.

He also shows diagrams with pictures of vinegar and pickle plants.  Many are small enough to model with little or no compression.

Overall I have a very positive first impression.

PS.  Soft-bound printed on glossy paper with mainly B&W images.  Dimensioned drawings in the back.

I just received my copy. This is an EXCELLENT book, full of historical information and many clear photos. As the author states, it is a work 20 years in the making. It is obvious that he spent a great deal of time researching and planning.

I cannot recommend this book highly enough. If you are not currently interested in the pickle and vinegar industries, this book is enough to inspire a new interest in you!
