Here are about 50 pictures taken last weekend as the sun was rising on the layout.  I tried to give you an update...as you can see in some of the pictures I am just getting started in some areas with scenery beginning with the rock faces.  In particular, one rock wall will be around 26 feet long so I am using a combination of rock sheets with some carvings.  I hope you enjoy these pictures as all of them are new and have not been posted on the forum prior to now.  By the way...if you will RIGHT CLICK on any particular picture and then click on the "Open link in new window" option, you will get the best view of the picture.

As always, I appreciate you taking time to look and make comments....gives me inspiration to keep going on this project!

Alan,

Great pictures, simply beautiful – again! It is amazing how after spending several hours looking at your layout over several days, I still find details that I had missed. I like all the pictures, but if I had to choose, my favorites this time would be 19, 21, 27 and 33. The angle you chose for picture 21 really brings the items into a nice perspective. And picture 33 always is a favorite subject.

About picture 7. It appears that the marquee of the Palace Theater reads,

"Now Playing"

“?????? LOVES LAKEETA”

Do you have competition, or does you name appear at the beginning of the title?

Thank you for sharing!

Alex

I could give you a long list of superlatives but suffice to say your layout is great.

I noticed that many of your buildings are MTH and other premade items. But some, like the parking garage and towers are unique. Did you build them your self, or are they items you picked up at train shows?

Also in the first picture there are two cars that where left under the elevated track just parked there. I hate when people think they can park just any old place with no regard to others need to get to work. I say you need to call a tow truck to get them out of there.

Thanks Guys for all of the great comments!  Sorry I didn't get to you sooner but it was a LONG day and so this evening, the wife and I decided to dinner....we will be celebrating my birthday this weekend since it is my last 50's birthday!

Ray....thanks, I am trying to capture the look of a big city...by the way, happy birthday to you! (Mine is Monday).

CPJim...I am so glad that I decided to have an upper row of windows in the room on the east wall.  It really helps with pictures and running trains during the day.  Thanks!

Brian...get down here and finish my harbor scene!!

Mike...thanks so much, I enjoy pictures of your layout too...did you finally get enough of those K-Line containers??

Train guy...thank you....right now the diesel shops are servicing all UP locomotives but I like too many railroads and soon, BNSF will be taking their place for a while.  I will post a track plan hopefully soon...it has been on my list of things to do.

Garyg...you already know how I feel about your layout...WOW!! love it!

Casey LV....thanks!

C. Sam....thank you, I also enjoy your pics especially the ones where you are showing the different locomotives that visit your railroad.

Alex M....thank you....hope to see your layout soon!  The arch bridge is a modified version of one of Jim's from Bridgeboss.

Alex....once again, you humble me my friend.  I am watching what you have completed since spending the weekend with us a couple of weeks ago and I assure you, look in your mirror....I am WAY behind you!!    By the way, Robert beat me to the punch, he posted the answer of whether I have competition.....

olstykke....I am not sure which station to which you refer.  If it is the one with the tower and pointed roofs with the picture of the elevated from above, that one was kitbashed from 7 Disney kits.  If it is the one that has the two taxis in from with the stairway that goes up to the elevated....the one with columns.   That one was once a scale model of the Parthenon I built way back in 1970 for a project.  I modified it for use on the layout since I thought combined with an old Lionel double station looked like a typical "Union Station" from the early 20th century.

Mario...thanks so much, you are always so positive...I appreciate that.  While I have a lot of MTH buildings, I really have more kitbashed and scratch built buildings on the layout.  All of the "towers" I built either from modified toy building kits or completely from scratch using all kind of pieces and parts.  Just today I completed the next tower that will be going up in the city....made from 4 plastic CD racks united with window glazing made from diffusers....wait till you see it...pretty neat.    By the way, the parked cars without drivers...well, when those two guys came back to their cars, the cops were waiting for them.  They had created a huge traffic jam....so the police cuffed them and off to the station they went!!!

Robert....you beat me to it!!  Thanks for clearing up any doubt...

Alan

I picked up a 20 foot K-Line container at York and I think I was more excited about that than I was the engines I bought!    Speaking of engines, in one of your pictures, about halfway down, the shot with the Bucyrus crane, there are a couple of Pennsy units.  Are those K-Line E-8's by chance?  Or if not, may I ask what exactly are they?  Thanks.

Awesome work, Alan!  Two questions:  Did you scratchbuild the ironwork for the El?

Also, that green patina on the ironwork:  If you painted it yourself, how did you get

that particular shade?  I call it 'Lackawanna green'.

Your sense of how an image translates to the camera is impeccable.  Congratulations!

     HOPPY

Thank you HOPPY....the "EL" is a combination of scratch built along with portions that I had Jim at Bridgeboss custom create from my requests.  I am not sure if you are asking about the green trainshed or the "EL" as far as the patina...but the "EL" is painted black and the trainshed is painted with Krylon Hunter Green in the satin finish.
