Hi Everyone!!

Sometimes a plan just comes together and this is one of those times!  Well over a year ago I had planned to add an elevated/subway line to the south side of the city....  This is an area of downtown that measures about 4 feet by 26 feet.  I already had a street line installed and operating but I wanted to also include an elevated line that would start at the station (an MTH version) and then go into the suburbs which are somewhere past the east wall of the layout ( my pretend imagination )!

I had started the project when it appeared my plans would have to change due to the lack of the kind of elevated structure I needed to add to what I already had.  That is when my good friend Brian Vaill (Passenger Train Collector) came to my rescue this past York.  He already knew that I was working on "a project" and had recently found some additional boxes of steel elevated structure he had used on a previous layout.  This was exactly what I needed!  The structure was made by P.J. Fusco of "Toys of Steel" fame.  Brian and his lovely wife Elizabeth (boy is he a lucky guy!) were at the OGR Tuesday dinner event when he went to his car and brought me two boxes of this elevated structure and GAVE it to me....yep, he and Elizabeth donated it to my project so that I could finish it....which I did this weekend.  Thanks to their generosity, it would have been next to impossible for me to complete this structure as I simply could not find any of this product for sale.  Because of their kindness, I am naming it the "Vaill Green Line" and will have the appropriate signage at the station and other locations.

So...I hope you enjoy the new " Vaill Green Line" as I " un-Vaill it!!  Each of you are invited to take a ride and do a little shopping downtown!!

Alan

Fantastic looking & a great story to match. While I have never met Brian, all of my dealings & conversations with him here on the forum have been nothing but positive. There are never any negative comments by him. A real gentleman & him and his wife are real assets to the hobby.

I also notice in the photos a little tribute to your wife Alan on the theater marquee.

As a good friend of Brian's, I am not surprised by his generosity.  As has been noted, Brian is always a very positive person that is a pleasure to be with.  While I have not had the opportunity to meet Elizabeth in person, I am so happy that they are able to share in Brian's love of this hobby.

Alan very nice job with this awesome addition to your city.  You are on a roll after finding your new double-deck bridge.

Your new elevated system looks terrific on this wonderful layout. Elizabeth and I are honored to have you name it after us. And thanks to all of your for your thoughtful comments.

I have had the pleasure to know Alan for many years. We got to know one another because of this Forum. It would not have happened otherwise. He has advised me, encouraged me, and is a significant reason why so many of us call this our internet home. Way to go, Alan.

Nick....I wish there were more time but I am one of those guys that doesn't seem to need a lot of sleep so I usually get an energy burst after supper and then work well into the night...sometimes into the wee hours of the next morning!..

Oingo....The layout has not yet been in our magazine...I don't feel it is ready since there is so much more to do like weathering, landscaping, ballasting and the list goes on.  I have made a lot of pictures posts here on the forum that you may enjoy....

Thanks!

Alan

Alan, you were the "talk of the town" last evening. We had a dinner meeting and one of the attendees is another big time train fan. I had great pleasure describing your new addition and your wonderful layout. Now he wants to travel to Mountain Home.

This individual was the guest speaker and his program was all about Veterans Day. He is a retired Major General. We really hit it off and had a lot in common.

Alan, I will get his contact information. When I said we had a lot in common, we were both raised in the same home state. We both served as Town Council Presidents. And of course we both share a love of trains. It really turned out to be a wonderful evening with great conversation.

I sat across from him at dinner and when they were clearing the tables, we were still talking trains.

Yea, Alan, where is it? Your an unrelenting tease with your fancy photos. Time to cough it up. Roll that beautiful train footage.
