Good Morning,
I have 2 Acela Sets. I put one on display with the doors open. When I handled one of the cars. a pin fell out of an open door. I looked at parts pictures and listing on Lionel Support side and did not see this piece. I speculate it is part of the door mechanism.
I am asking for the Acela Fella or someone else to identify the piece and point me in the right direction.
I could probably figure it out when I disassemble the car, but thought someone might know.

Same shape as the fan drive pin, different proportions. What actual car did it fall out of?
Is the fan loose as well?
I thought I had seen this part in one of the Acela exploded parts diagrams I have recently looked at. The only thing that is close is indeed the fan drive pin referred to above. The parts photo appears to show it with a slightly longer end but that doesn't necessarily mean it's not the same part that the factory used:
On all of the individual car parts lists I have seen (they seem to be pretty much identical apart from the body shells and interior assemblies) this is listed as part #11 and there are four of them used per car. They are related to parts 1 and 19, the AC housings and the fans inside them.

If you look in the top, are all the fans visible? (Could always be a "stowaway" extra part;-)

I certainly hope your wrong. I have purchased 2 and put maintenance in the doors and pantographs. At this point both rum flawlessly. Yes, flawlessly. Like Legos and models, there are certain skill levels required. If you don't mind opening shells and tinkering, this is a great set. If you don't disassemble and tinker, not a great set.
I wish we had similar passenger car sets that have operating doors and sounds. Not going to happen. Too much under the hood work!
Yeah but BobbyD has a point; if the fans show no sign of having a drive pin missing, this could be a stray part from the factory.
Way back when these sets were issued, I think that we members of the general model train-buying public (in particular this member) did not expect to find stray parts such as capacitors, boiler fronts, cowcatchers and the like slumming around in the boxes/ shipping cartons our trains came in. Now it’s kinda like the norm.

Now that I know it is related to fans, I'm sure I will find where it goes. I had the car completely apart to lube and run the door motors. It would have come out then if it was an orphan.
Busy wire tying under the layout tonight. I will check the fan assy. when I need a break. Not much fun labeling and wire tying under the table. Gets boring.
