The 8x13 12v Pittman: stall torque 6.76 oz-in and 8238 no load rpm.

the 8x23 12v Pittman’s stall torque 10.5 oz-in and  no load rpm 8070.

For outstanding slow starts under load on grades torque counts.  My preferred motor where space allows is a Pittman 9x33 with stall torque 31.6 oz-in and  5993 rpm.  I installed them in PRR 4-8-2’s.  In PRR 2-10-4's I installed the longer Pittman 9x34 motors with 41.3 stall torque and 6151 rpm.

8xxx series motors are 1 1/4" diameter, 9xxx series motors are 1 5/8" diameter.      My source for the data is an old Bob Janzen re-motoring sales brochure.

Hope this helps.

Last time I needed a Pittman motor I couldn't find a source. Where are these motors available beyond the used stuff on Ebay or perhaps off a train show table?

Thank you

Bob

We used to be able to call Pittman themselves, sometimes Charlie himself would even answer the phone, ….Charlie was a traction guy himself, so conversations with him, and placing orders were easy and enjoyable,…then Pittman got picked up by Hayden, still could call in orders, but much colder, and harder to get an order together, and unless you were buying a large lot of off the shelf models, it was slow going,….although Hayden always came through…….then enter Ametek…..Ametek really ain’t interested in the hobby segment anymore,….AMOF, they don’t period,…..aerospace and medical is their real only interest …….yes, you can buy from Ametek, but the quantities and the prices make it totally unfeasible …….I believe Ametek has even gotten out of the elevator door motor business, which was Charlie’s and then Hayden’s primary source of sales…..(according to them) ……..most of us have gone underground, finding motors second hand, where ever possible …..stock up when you find them….
