Part of the shell on the side of the locomotive has detached from the main frame. It appears that it could snap back into place. However, even after pressing it back together, it doesn't take much for it to be detached again.
This was bought on the secondary market. Is it fixable, or should I just return it? 
Easy fix.
Get some plastic model glue and a small applicator. Apply glue to the 2 bosses visible in the first picture (use a microapplicator, glue with a needle point bottle or toothpick depending on glue so as to not make a mess), and clamp it back in place for a while.
It was either glued in the first place with not enough glue, or it was friction fit in the shell and is no longer tight enough.
