I have a New York & Atlantic Premier MTH DCS switcher model 30-20443-1. It appears that the electronic board has some type of short. If I put some pressure and a slight bend it comes alive. The solder joints were checked to see if one of the diodes was loose. If you find the sweet spot it will work for a while and then cuts out. After repeatedly trying this, I believe I destroyed the board completely. Does anyone know how to purchase a PS-3 board. It appears that MTH is sold out of the Proto Sound 3.0 Diesel (50-1912 Upgrade Kit).

I find this a little troubling as they are selling many engines that could have some problems after the warranty period ends and what then!!!!

Is there anybody out there who has converted MTH DCS to TMCC with boards from Electric RR company?

Also, it appears that there are a few repair places that will sell the board with one caveat, they have to do the repair at a significant cost plus the price of the board. The board sells for $200.00 and I'm sure the repair will be at least $100.00. Plus shipping cost involved.

Is there an MTH phone number that someone will pick up the phone??

I have many MTH and Lionel engines but this one was my favorite. Thanks for taking the time to read this and  maybe trying to help me out.

Be well my friends.

That unit is 5-plus years old so yeah the warranty from any manufacturer is out.  Much like everything else in life, some products fail prematurely and your situation is the exception, not the rule.

A good option would be to salvage a PS3 board from another cheaper unit. (Railking PS3 diesels are reasonable and the board is a direct swap). You could swap to TMCC but it will cost you more if you want sound and requires much more work to install vs. repairing or replacing the existing board.

Unless you are very skilled and confident, I would send this to someone who does out of warranty repairs.  Gunrunnerjohn and GGG are at least two folks who do DCS/PS3 board replacements/repairs on the forum.  Worth checking in with them?  If you like DCS and PS3, no need to consider swapping to TMCC at this point, since alternatives are available despite MTH's downsizing and ceasing repairs.
