It has no markings other than a patent number. What does it do?

I can tell you it was made by Noma. That's about it.

Made in the 1950's by Noma. (the same company that made Bubble lights.
Talking station that came in red and white or green and white. There have
been replacement records made for this. I'm not sure about now.
Maybe it would be a candidate for The Train Collectors Quarterly "Who Done It?" department.
Pretty common piece. As stated above, it's a Noma Talking Station. Funny thing is: there's a painting of one in the Lionel 1986 Tradition Line catalog!

Here's a YouTube search result with the digital replacement for the record.
Well I'll be. You can learn a lot here. Never had a NOMA piece, myself.
Noma made four or five versions of the talking stations. Santa Fe super chief, Union pacific streamliner, Pennsylvania Broadway limited (one I had as kid and still have in box), All streamline roomette. Rumored there was supposedly a fifth one.
Hear them here:

In my home I have a telephone system that plays music on hold when any phone is palced on hold. Rather than drab music, I reprogrammed unit to play all four Noma and an American Flyer announcements. I get alot of comments about how unique that "music" is!!
I assume since there are batteries in there, the unit runs which is pretty good after xyears in storeage, unless someone has refurbished it before selling it.
As mentioned, I had/have the Pennsylvania Broadway Limited version. I played it so much that to this day I can repeat verbatim the announcement and hear that whistle and chuffing sounds as the train leaves the station. nostalgia indeed!!
Hi If you need the decals for the clock and the outhers we have them in stock.
at Hennings Trains.
Thanks for all the responses. Harry, I will call you tomorrow morning. besides 2 clocks, I will need the piece that holds the batteries in place. Did you see anything else missing?

Hi Eddie
I don't know if we have a batter hold down. When you call ask dad we might have one from and old station. We had some for parts. Wether we have any left for parts I am not shore.
You fellows that never had a Noma piece maybe mistaken. Noma made a lot of Christmas trims and lights.
November 1993 of the "other" magazine had a good article about this item.
There is also a green roof variation which is alot harder to find.
The drive belts may need replacing if they are still even there.
Nov 1993 CTT has an article called "Next Stop, Noma Town".
There is also a variation with a green roof, red roof is more common.
