I have a few Lionel PW quad hoppers - 6436-25 - missing brake wheels. I ordered brake wheels (715-21) and studs (3656-153) from Jeff Kane at the Train Tender. The parts should hopefully arrive in the next few days.
Any suggestions on getting the 3656-153 inserted without splitting or damaging the plastic shell?

The studs have a spiral thread. Make sure the threads are aligned before pressing it in. Back up the plastic shell with a wood block before pressing the stud in to prevent cracking the shell. Try using a small anvil that fits inside the brakewheel against the stud and press the stud in with a pair of Channelocks

Heating the pin with a soldering gun will help it press in too. An old train repair tech taught me this technique.
