I have some sheet metal pass. Cars that are missing the celluloid window panes. I remember my dads 1426wx set from 1948 with the 6440/6441 green passenger cars. The window panes had a slight amber color as I remember. I would like to duplicate that same color but need some good suggestions as to what direction to go. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

You can look for semi-clear (translucent) plastic strips online. McMa$terCarr would carry that sort of thing but I'm sure there are better sources.
If not going for a 5 star restoration, the clear HDPE plastic of a milk jug can be cut into strips for a suitable replacement.

My bet is that the slight amber color was the celluloid window material ageing.

I would recommend a clear plastic bakery container, much better for windows as you can get flat pieces, and you can generally find longer pieces.
Hi Michael, I might look at photography film. Have it processed unexposed and it should come out clear.
It might provide the celluloid look, its inexpensive and readily available.
Michael here is another option for you to consider. I’ve used strapping tape of the appropriate width, available at any big box store, for years and have been happy with the look.

I dug mine out here a big ago. I see that my younger self used paper. It doesn't look too bad.
I use both a translucent poly propalene and a clear version. Comes in large sheets, I have the shear it to width. I suspect something precut may be available from a train parts supply
