Hi to all,
Yesterday I purchased what is essentially a postwar Lionel #125 whistle shack.
The base at some point was swapped out for an MPC brown plastic one, and a lightbulb was added to the interior at one point. My dealer assured me that there was no way the shack and roof were MPC though --- it was essentially a modified postwar piece.
My Problem is this.
The shacks whistle is very faint, almost nonexistent. Physical symptoms are as follows.
1) Motor for the whistle is same motor as postwar gang car.
2) When viewed from below, instead of four stationary spokes on the whistle
'hole' there are six or seven that spin when the current is turned on.
3) When I blow into the whistle hole from below, it does not make the noise that it should, i.e. a whistle noise. It is silent.
It has been oiled and contacts have been cleaned with contact cleaner.
My question is this.
1) Is the motor installed right side up, but the plastic whistle armature itself installed upside down?
2) How do i fix it if this is so?
3) Could I swap out a whistle from a junker tender?
4) Am I barking up the wrong tree?
Thanks in advance for help with my Frankenshack.
