Does anyone know where to buy the connector and pins to mate to the Powerhouse 180W transformer from Lionel so I can connect it to a TIU?  I have used the cable that Lionel has for TMCC but have been less that enthused by it in my set-up.  Also do you know of parts for either banana plugs that can connect to a TIU or a U-shape crimp lug for the TIU?

Thanks,

There are large enough that it's easy to simply use needle-nose pliers to fold them over and solder the wire, no need to try to get a crimp with the wrong tool.

Banana plugs I get on eBay, lots of folks selling them.

I have gotten some different banana plugs from ebay and so far haven't liked them too well. I ordered some of these a few weeks ago and they are very nice. The ones linked are the NO set screw type which I had not tried before, but now prefer. They also stay tightly connected to the TIU and any other items they are plugged into, which my ebay purchases had trouble doing. Anyway just another selection and they were really not all that expensive, about a buck a piece. You can access several different kinds of their plugs from the link here:  Sewell Banana Plugs.

Edit: Just ran across this old post.

I have since found some better Banana Plugs at Digikey - EZ-Hook Banana Plugs - Digikey Part # 461-1214-ND. I have been using these for several years now and IMO, they are the best I have found so far, also a bit more expensive.

I simply got the tmcc tpc adapter cable set,  then connected the molex end to the powerhouse. Then snipped of the metal "U" connectors on the other end, stripped off the insulation about 1/4 inch, separated the two wires, and installed banana jacks on the ends that I picked up from Radio Shack. Works like a charm....

Banana jacks I used were like these;

You could also pick up a set of these;

Now for the next questions since I got the Molex connectors and the banana plugs installed on my system.

What do I need to buy to add Legacy to the system so I could use this or DCS at the same time?  I think I would need the Legacy 990 at least.  Anything else?  The MTH serial cable?

Also, does anyone know of any interesting terminal strips?  Maybe one with all banana plugs that are bussed together.  Just think of getting away from the crimped connectors.  They have been causing me issues.

Try the MTH terminal strips. They have them in 12 & 24 terminal versions. No crimp connectors required. 50-1014-12 Terminals & 50-1020-24 Terminals I ended up preferring the 24 terminal strips because all the red/black connections are next to each other (lower & upper, down each side) and they are easier to wire neatly (purely personal preference here).

I have DCS and Legacy and the only connection between them is one black wire from Legacy base to all TIU output commons. No MTH cable. I run MTH with DCS and Legacy/TMCC with the Legacy 990.

I think you only need the cable if you want to run Legacy/TMCC engines with the DCS remote in TMCC mode only. May be a good idea to have the cable just in case. I have one, but I have never used it.

If you want to use Legacy & DCS at the same time, I wouldn't bother with the cable between the TIU and Legacy base.

We can run conventional, TMCC/Legacy, and DCS all at the same time, and never had the NEED to connect the 2 systems together. You can't access all the Legacy features from the DCS remote anyway.

That's just my opinion, based on how we wired the layout, and how we run trains. Mkes it simple and easy to figure out.

I have already seen these.  I wanted to have banana plugs on other side too.  But thanks for taking the time for the reply.

Also thanks to you and everyone else on the Legacy responses.  Now all I need to do is find an engine I want so I can justify buying the Legacy equipment.
