Hello friends. Been a while since I posted. Just returned from a four month mission trip and didn't have much train time. I'm back and working on a few projects. I am looking to recreate a powered heavy rail truck for my eventual layout. It will be a brandt flat bed. I want it to pull about four cars. I will likely run straight dc on two rails on the layout. I have a little experience with fine electronics but I'm not very well versed. Any ideas of how u can create this or a thread post that covers this. I'm wondering if it's easier to power the rail wheels or rubber wheel axles. The donor vehicle will likely be the norscot 1/50 cat tri axle dump with modifications or perhaps sword western star. Can should house one motor I can "hide" a second in a load on deck.

Any help on this would be great. Thanks guys.

Lee Riley should pop on and comment on this he is the go to guy for powering Diecast vehicles he uses his on Super Streets  He should chime in here

off the top of my head, here are a couple suggestions:

use a smaller (mod. 3/4) NWSL gearbox mated to small Sagami motor, with HO wheelsets on the axle(s)

there are small, self contained 2 axle powered units called 'Black Beetles' that are made in several wheelbase lengths

find a older Bachmann GE 44 ton HO model, they came with two separate power drive units (On30 critter modelers use these)
