i have a powermaster 360(2/180ph) powering a main line, i have another isolated section i power with a tpc300/180ph.when an engine crosses over from main line to the seconday line, it trips the circuit breaker on the the powermaster 360.is the power from the 180ph feeding back to the 360?causing it to trip?if so how can i fix this. i originally had a tpc 400 on the main line with no problems.

A few things to consider:

  • Are the 360 and 300 power sources in phase?
    • Note that Lionel did have a production run or two of PH180s that were inadvertently "reversed". At the time, Lionel would provide a corrective reverse cable for the affected units with date code "2000 48" and earlier.
    • Are all the PH180s being powered by the same AC phase from the wall outlet?
  • Are the 360 and 300 set to equivalent power levels?
  • Is only the center rail isolated between the two districts?
  • Are you using common ground wiring?
  • Does it only happen in conventional operation?

Hints to the above can be observed with a multi-meter. Like shown below, with both the 360 and 300 at full power (no trains on the track anywhere), what AC voltage do you see when probing the center rails on each side?
