Does anyone know what type of coupler goes on the back end of a tender for the 1668E engine? I also need the pick up shoes for that engine.

Most likely a box & pin coupler or it can be described as a small pin with a box like cover. The 027 version might be a manual coupler while the O gauge version can be an electric solenoid to uncouple with.
I don't know who carries the parts for prewar Lionel, maybe somebody else knows.

C. Lee Colbert,
The Lionel 1668E had original Lionel manual (Latch) couplers on it, see if Dave at Bill & Walt's Hobby Shop in White Oak, Pa has the coupler for you in his part inventory, you will need to talk to David personally, he probably has some of them in his old parts stuff. He may have the pick ups also, good luck with that. You might want to post this thread in the Tin Plate section also, one of the other Tin Plate guys might know a different place closer to you to purchase what you need, or some place on the net even.

The 1668E tender came with a latch coupler. Those and the pick up shies are available from Jeff Kane at The Train Tender.

Gandy,
You are correct sir I left out the word latch from my original post, thank you for catching it. Jeff at the Train Tender would also be a good contact point.

George Tebolt. has tinplate parts. He has a web page with all parts listed.
Doc,
Thom please post the we page, for us to copy and place in our favorites list.
I simply punched up GeorgeTeboltTrainPartsInc and everything you need is there,
Lee, I would call him and talk to him about what you actually need.
