HELP! - I need to remove one of the trucks.  It appears like most mth rolling stock that the truck is mounted to a plated, screw coming from top of plate.  I can only see two screws on the underside that appear to be holding the plate into the plastic frame.  I have removed the screws but I can't remove plate/truck from plastic body even with moderate force.  I have look for other screws and can't see any.

I checked MTH can't find a service diagram, nada.

I know a one of you knows the trick.  Thanks in advance, Jim

Jim-

On the Premier PS2-CD hopper there is a snap-in plastic platform just above the car sill; this needs to be carefully removed before the truck can be accessed. My guess is the 4-bay car has a similar detail.

My fear, there is so much detail on the ends.  With the PS2s, is it the platform that the break stuff sits on? and does just that come out or does that and the truck mounting plate come out???  Hugh Thanks! Jim

Jim-

The footboard (platform) is in between the coupler shank and the brake wheel on both ends of the car. The problem is the platform is secured in by four plastic tabs; these tabs prevent the chassis from separating from the car body. To remove the platform squeeze each pair of tabs together, then pull the platform away from the car. The tabs unfortunately are fragile and can bend/break easily.

End PlatformPlatform Tabs

Hope this helps!

Thank You Again - Super Helpful!!!  It's a DT&I hopper black so those gaps your pictures make really clear help so much. I couldn't see with the black on black where to stick a fine blade and didn't want to destroy the thing.  Some how, at the factory, they put the center truck screw into the truck at an angle.

With Appreciation,

Jim

First - Thank You John!

So after looking at the great information and pictures, I began to test / how to remove the plate to access the truck mounting screw.  Something still wasn't right.

So I continued to look at end of hooper, the detail parts and it still looked as if it was solid.  It was.  For the premier 4 bay hoppers, when you remove the two underside screws, it allows you to remove the front wall of the hopper bay exposing the truck mounting screw.  Pretty tricky.  For posterity see pictures.  China factory worker jammed the truck screw in at an odd angle - probably rushing off to an early Chinese New Year.
