Trying to get my father-in-laws prewar train running consistantly and after a number of laps on the new Fastrack oval it just quit this afternoon.  Lights are on and I can hear humming but no movement.

I wondering what the switch on the top of engine near the cab is for and what position it should be in for normal operation.  Can anyone assist?

Also, in hooking up the 1033 transformer to the Fastrack one wire is black and the other is black with a white strip.  Which goes to the U and which to the A?

Total newbie at this so any assistance would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

Ron

As a starter, that is part of the E unit for reversing the engine. Spray some CDC electro cleaner in there and move the laver back & forth. Sometimes you get a bum connection with it. Also clean the brass commutator with the solvent and especially the grooves between each segment. Eventually think about getting it cleaned and serviced by someone. It might need some lubrication, too.  Good luck.
