I have an MTH F A-B-A unit that I am attempting to readd to the system. When I turn on the Z4000 transformer, engine noise and cab chatter and lights all come on. The engine is not listed in my remote but when I attempt to add it, nothing happens and the only message displayed on the remote is "in remote." I had run it in the past when I was building this layout but not since I upgraded the handheld software. Other engines are "well behaved." I'd appreciate the group's advice. Thanks, Paul

All proto-2 & 3 should remain dark & silent whether they've been added to the remote or not upon power up... Seems there's a problem  already,. Why is the engine not seeing the dcs watch dog signal..?

However it could be in the inactive list or if one doesn't use a programming track  the engine may   even have a completely new name or ID.  Are there any engines in the remote with just an ID number ?

I'd  at least try adding  it on a small test track  that has  a perfect dcs signal.

If I had to guess, I'd say that somehow the loco has gotten its ID changed.  You could try this:

(1) back up your remote to a PC usinf Loader 5.0, so that you can restore it.

(2) Place only this loco on the track and press READ.

(3) If the engine shows up with a different ID.  Go to edit engine and change the ID address back to where it was.

(4) Restore the remote from your PC.

If you have multiple remotes, only add engines from one of them, and use the Loader's backup & restore functions to make them all clones.
