Hi everyone,

I received my E8s today and they're everything I hoped for in terms of appearance and sound.  But, right off the bat the powered unit has an intermittent dead short.  By process of elimination I determined it's the powered unit, as I got it to act up running solo on my mainline loop.  It's done this 3 times in the half hour I've had it on the track, at different locations each time.  My mainline curve diameter is O-72, so I know I'm not pushing the design limits.

I have to think it's a pinched wire somewhere.  Will I void the warranty if I open it up and look for the problem?  Should I *sigh* pack it up and send it back?  And in that case, to the selling dealer or to Lionel for a warranty repair?  I ask these basic questions because in my 17 years of buying and operating both MTH and Lionel modern-era locomotives, this is the first one that's had a problem.

Despite this problem I want to go on the record as saying that these are sweet-running and -sounding locomotives, and I'm really happy I ordered them.

Thanks,

hello, my first call would be to the dealer i purchased this nice engine from. My second call would be to Lionel on monday morning and get an RA for return. More than likely they will send you a return label for Fed-X return.  Either way, I am positively sure that Lionel will take Great Care of you. Do not open the package as this will void the warranty. Good luck.

Hey Joel, Not sure who you bought it off of.  But I would check with the dealer before you open it up.  Every dealer has there own system. Some dealers have extras so a simple swap might be your best bet if it was. If not I would ask Lionel.  Feel free to call me if it was through us.  Ken Jr.

Note for Rich or the O Gauge Forum crew, - Maybe we can have a way for the dealers to see peoples last name or phone numbers so we can look in our POS systems to see if they purchased certain items from us.  Most of the dealers see this forum and would like to resolve the issues if it was their store.  Just an idea.  Hard to help people without knowing who they bought it from.
