seems a lot of the older Pennsy K4 engines have cowcatchers that appear to be bent down, probably from front contact. There isn't much height adjustment available. Replacements are easy to come by at train shows or you can try bending it although it is a brittle matal and tends to braek. Filing might be your best bet.
You can raise the pilot on a K-5 by putting a washer between the boiler casting and the frame prior to screwing it together. A little goo or CA to hold the washer in place aids in assembly. I had this same problem, and placing the washer between the parts raises the pilot.
