I just received my pair of EL GP7s. The good news is that they come with a LokSound v5 decoder and keep alive capacitor. The stock speaker is a little weak in the low end and needs replacing with a Tang Band but that’s no big deal.

the problem is that both units have one truck that the motor doesn’t run. Oddly, it’s a different side in each unit. Front on one and rear on the other. The electrical pickup works on the trucks that aren’t moving and there is no gear binding. I’m thinking that the wiring is wrong, fallen off, or bad motors? If I could figure out how to get the body shells off I would investigate. Anyone know how?

I don’t think this happened in shipping (unless a plug came undone) as the new packing method they use is very good. They are screwed to a hard plastic insert. Great design.

I shudder to think that after what? 5? 7?  years of waiting that I have to send these back to Atlas. I can’t be the only one with this issue. Anyone else figure this out yet?

Thanks,

Jonathan

I have a 2-rail GP9 that I added a LokSound decoder to a few years ago and I don't recollect any issues removing the shell.

I think the GP7's/9's have the same Red Caboose tooling...remove the screws from the bottom and separate the handrails from the cab and the shell lifts off. I think there are tabs on the shell that fit into slots on the frame that you have to be aware of.
