Problem with prewar humpback motor

O Gauge JimOGR Forum Member SUPPORTING MEMBERDIGITAL SUBSCRIBER

I have a problem with the motor out of a prewar 154 locomotive. The wiring is new, the gears look good, the wheels turn freely in both directions but when voltage is applied nothing happens but if I just give it a slight nudge, it take off like a jack rabbit. I have cleaned the wheels and pickup rollers. It happens anywhere on the track so it is not a track issue. Any suggestions??

Worn brushplate. Armature hole worn too large and binding the armature against the field. Also check brush spring tension.
