I have a legacyehgine and was told I could run that on MTH CDs system.  I cannot program the engine into the dcs.  When you hit read button no docs engine is found.   i thought I followed the manual step by step.  What am I missing?   Are there any legacy controls or cables I need?

Lets get started.... You have to manually  load a TMCC engine into the dcs remote.

go to Menu/System / Engine set up/ Add engine/ Add tmcc engine/   A list of letters shows up. name it anything you want and select  the "D". ( done naming)

Not done yet though.. A list of TMCC addresses shows up , select the address you would use if using the cab-1. Now you.re done. The engine will be in the dcs remotes inactive list. select it  to make it active, select it again to bring it up on the main screen.

And Yes you do need a cable that goes from the Tiu to lionel base.

When you hit read button no docs engine is found.

Why is it that people think that the READ command adds engines - PS2, PS3, TMCC, or Legacy - to the DCS Remote? It does not and never has.

All READ does is:

  • Moves engines that are in the remote and are on powered tracks, to the Active Engine List
  • Moves engines that are in the remote and not are on powered tracks, to the Inactive Engine List
  • Reports on which TIUs that are in the remote are powered up and how many AIUs are connected to them.

This and a whole lot more is all in MTH’s “The DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd Edition", available for purchase as an eBook or a printed book at MTH's web store!

Greg,

Real nice directions, I would have just told him to read Barry's DCS O Gauge Companion book, might have given him the page number also.  Barry is showing his frustration after doing all the work to write all this out, when I see a post like this one I keep plugging his work, it does answer 99% of the questions.  Jw might like to run his Legacy with the Cab 2 also if he has a Legacy.

Thanks Dave, Yes we all could buy the book and do away this part of the forum but that's no fun. However Barry does share parts of the book right here on the forum   to answer just about anyone's questions. It's not like you have to buy the book.  I bought the original E-book.

And yes I agree, to get the best out of legacy run it with the legacy controller.

Greg,

I did not mean it in quite that manner, people especially beginners in DCS need to be able to ask questions about DCS and having Barry answer them on the OGR is great, there are a couple of these guys however, that if Barry gets them on one of his Ship board cruses, they are going over the rail.  Me I actually like that they ask all the DCS questions, makes for a very interesting forum.  Way back before Barry wrote his 1st DCS Book I must have asked him more questions than any of these guys will every dream up, course the DCS was in it's infancy at that time.
