Pros and Cons of Lionel's TMCCII Legacy System

Recently I read a description of Lionel's Canadian National SD40-2 (6-28259) that was released in 2006 and noted among the listed features it included the words "TMCCII Legacy equipped".  As a result, I'd be interested in hearing any thoughts people have on this - technical or otherwise.  For example, it would have been released around the time that Lionel was beginning to introduce Legacy, but did the 2006 version have any shortcomings or limitations compared to today's system with its numerous capabilities.  Any comments would be appreciated.

It runs very similar to current Legacy, but some stuff has been added/changed for more modern electronics. I have a few older Legacy locomotives, they are fine.

However, a major point is that Lionel declared all the electronic parts for Legacy prior to 2010 to be obsolete and removed them from the parts site!  So, if you're shopping, I'd stick with stuff made after 2010 for that reason alone.

Note on the parts site that all the major electronics are listed as "unavailable", and in the description of the part, they're all described as "OBSOLETE".
