Have a need for an 0 - 8 - 0  or other small steam engine PS1 chip.

Willing to trade either a 'MTH 4-8-8-4 w/pfa'  or '1994 QSI MTH Y6B' for the chip. Either swap chips or obtain a sound board with the chip in it.

Also have a need for the ps1 sound board with a diesel chip.

email in profile.

thanks,

bruce

Hi,

its a 30-2118-1 loco

Yeah like I said I had this trouble before and I sent it back to railking for repair. I know the batteries go dead after sitting a long time and cause lock up mode. so this time I saw the repair kit with new battery where is you temp replace the chip and follow procedure with power up and shut down reinstall the original chip and go to reset number 18. I can get past one cycle of reset that is powering up and down without shutting power off I get one airbrake sound and it won’t go any further in the reset command line.  Also I noticed the repair kit says that repairs the three bells on start up problem my loco only has two Bells at startup. it’s been that way since the beginning.

thank you very much for your help

THat engine should not have the ID fault though it is always possible.  First, that kit is only for one specific problem which is the 3 clank  issue.  2 Bells is normal for startup.

Once you have the startup, if you lower and raise throttle like you are trying to move into various reset levels can you get past Reset one?  If you did it 3 time you should get three dings.  If you can only get one ding it is locked from a fault, and needs to be reset with tech chips.  If you can move to other resets, go to 18 and do a reset.

But battery must be good, which means let it start up first at about 12-14V.  Once it starts up, turn power off.  Does it play full shutdown sounds.  If not, battery, harness or board are suspect.   Harness can corrode with old batteries.

If it does shutdown sounds, the reset should work, or do the unlock procedure also covered in the instruction manual.   All later PS-1 97 and up have the same instruction features.  G

Thank you again G, I hope I’m not crashing this thread it seems my problem is my controller and not the chip thanks to your last reply. By the way I get full shutdown sounds after powering down.

I have 4v at startup and 12v max throttle right at the jacks coming out of the controller (Z750) After thorough checkout of connections the above readings have moved to half throttle before it starts. My power supply checks good. I checked the 10k pot in the control it’s okay. I’ve read on these threads there can be issues on the control board and people think it’s the pot but that’s not the case.

im looking into newer control that’s not too pricey but waiting to hear back if it can accept my Power supply and will run a proto1 loco.

Again, many thanks!
