I brought an old PS-1 steamer to my local train store along with a PS-3 Steam Upgrade Kit back in August of 2020. Now, 9 months later, I am still waiting for the upgrade to be completed. Is such a long wait time normal for those of you who have sent in engines to be upgraded?

I trust the store completely, as I have known the owner for 20+ years, but since they do not have anyone who is an MTH authorized tech they send all such work to a local guy who IS an authorized technician. Apparently he is the only person in the area who is able to conduct these upgrades because another local train store uses the same guy. But despite the large population base he has to deal with, I find it hard to believe it takes 9+ months to get an upgrade done.

Am I just being impatient? Or is this an unusually long wait for such a job? For more specific context, I live in Ontario Canada, so if any fellow Canadians can share their experiences, I'd certainly be interested. But any input at all is welcomed as well.

What does your local trustworthy shop say when you question them about the time that has gone by?

9 months in I excusable unless they told you it was going to take that long.

I'd get it back and start a conversation with one of the resident OGR ASC folks here.

I've used GGG and GRJ.  Each 5 stars.

They say that he is old, in poor health, and has a very large backlog of repairs / upgrades that he's working through.

I agree that 9 months for such a job is inexcusable, but I also have no reason to believe that this is a lie, nor do I feel comfortable putting pressure if the guy is genuinely not healthy....

Still, I'm getting antsy. I could have taught myself how to properly and safely install the upgrade kit after this long.

As for getting in contact with one of the ASC fellows in our community here, I would love to do so, but international shipping prices make that cost-prohibitive. On top of that, Canada has brutal import charges. It would be an extra 50-75% of the upgrade cost for me to ship it out VS just driving to my local store. If not more.
