Hi all,

picked up a PS1 genesis from york, had a bad DCRU (bottom PS1) board, the two caps in the center started smoking (or it could've come from the diodes under it but not really sure). Swapped the board out with a good one my train club had lying around from an old upgrade and the engine started working fine.

Just curious if anyone knows what those caps are used for? Is it part of the charging circuit or something else? Want to make sure no other components are bad that might cause the replacement board to fail.

With the bad board:

idle with smoke unit on draw was 3 amps

with smoke unit off draw was still 3 amps

with good board:

idle with smoke unit on draw was 1.7 amps

idle with smoke unit off draw was 1 amp

voltage was 14 for all the observations.

Thanks,

Dan
