I would like to replace the factory speaker with a better sounding one. can a lionel fatboy speaker be used? assuming there is room. what speakers do you use in sound upgrades in these proto2 3 volt engines?

The Lionel Fatboy is typically 8 or 16 ohms, the PS2 3V board is looking for a 4 ohm speaker. Two of the 8 ohm speakers in parallel will work...
You can use any combination of speakers that nets you four ohms, obviously the efficiency rating of the speakers involved will determine the volume you are able to achieve.
Its a 4 ohm speaker right? Put a tang band in it. I believe their original intended use is flatscreen TVs. They're rectangular so you need to do a bit of mounting work and would benefit from drilling some more holes for sound, but if you have room to stuff one of them in there, it'll blow the doors off a standard round speaker. The "typical" model is the T1-1925S, but if you're short on space, the 2008S, and if you have more room, there are larger ones as well.
thanks guys, this model is a mth sp cabforward with the rounded tender. I will see if the tang band will fit. it looks like its a nice price if it works. thanks guys.
