This question is right up GGG's alley.  I personally toasted a lower 3V board by pinching a wire to the smoke unit.  Board appears kaput.  It looks like the component that burnt is a small 3-pin surface mount U10.  The number on the component starts with 352_.  Is this part available anywhere for purchase?  Sure would like to give this repair a shot.  Thanks!!

U-10 is next door, that is Q-19.  Fan stop.  FDN352AP.

You also need to check Q-20 above.  They sit head to head.  If the board won't start up, chances are both are shorted and your grounding out 5VDC.

Q-20 is FND5630.

You can get from online electronic parts.  If your only buying one it will get expensive in shipping.  Or I can provide one.  E-mail in profile.  G

Ok,  That is not the lower board.  That is the upper power supply board.  You burned Q-23.  When you said pinched smoke and lower board, I thought you were talking about the smoke fan fets on the processor board which is the lower board.

Here is your problem though.  If you pinched 5V to chassis ground there are other components on both those boards that can be bad.  Bad as in partial shorts that overload the Power Supply board and damage Q-23.

You can replace it, but it wouldn't surprise me if the board is still overloaded when power is applied.  You need to monitor current when you apply power after the fix.   I normally do this out of the engine in a board tester.  If current gets too high you need to shutdown and figure out the other issues.  G

GGG,

Yes there is a Q-23 shown to the lower right of the burnt fet.  So I was looking at the whole thing upside down and the board which is shorter in size is actually considered the upper board. Who'da thunk it?  I'll e-mail you on getting that single fet and then fire it up slowly watching the current draw.  Thanks again.
