sometimes I get it wrong! and it's a little thing I missed
That little spec of a part bit me hard!
Our grandson came over weeks ago and tried to run the Williams Challenger. It threw the breaker. I had just reworked it for the third or fourth time.
So like anyone else would do, I ripped it apart and decided to re-motor it.
As I did, I thought it would be good to keep an eye out for a MTH 2rl version. One popped up and I bought it. It was an old PS1 version so it needed an upgrade. It even had a 3rl tender. Lots of work.
It was finally done and running so I turned my attention back to the Williams version. I was done with the motor drive so I tried a test run for speed matching. This time it was on the inside main and connected to a handle of the Z4000 which I turned up to 21 volts. It kept drawing high amps and wouldn't move. I spun the flywheel by hand while powered and it shut down.
I got the tender on the bench and could smell something. That little part smoked.
I replaced it with a G scale version (HD) and now the engine runs again smoothly. All that work for maybe no reason?
Well now it has a big Pitman inside and maybe she'll behave. She now has a twin on the rails. The funny thing is a third (MTH) 2 rail (greyhound) Challenger popped up on the auction site and I was considering trying to buy that one too.
Maybe if I have spares, our grandson will be happy. He won't run the other engines when there's a grey UP steamer in the house. Urrggg.
