Ran my PS2 GS4 this morning and noticed that it was speeding very fast at just the first DCS speed step and wasn't making any chuff sounds. Opened it up and noticed the tach reader was a little wiggly in it's housing, but securing it better and making sure it was 1mm from the spinning flywheel didn't make any difference. All the solder points look fine. Did the tach reader just die? Any other suggestions what the problem could be before I have it replaced? Thanks!

Check the tether, if a wire breaks in the tether, it can cause the same symptom. Your problem is the tach reader isn't been seen by the PS/2 board, as to where that is happening, it could be the tach reader, wiring, or the PS/2 board.
It's got a wireless tether and I actually swapped out another one and the problem persists.
The PS/2 "wireless" tether is just a 10 circuit PCB, the mating connectors can be a problem as well.
