Am looking at an older PS2 engine that the original owner states works fine but the sound went out awhile back. What might it take to restore the sound in best/worst case please?

Sam,
Best case - Factory or Feature Reset.
Middle case - replace speaker or speaker wiring.
Worst case - blown audio amp on PS2 board.
I put a DVM on the speaker wires one time, and saw voltage changes. From this, I correctly decided the speaker was bad. After I removed it, I could actually see the broken wire going to the cone. The speaker, in my case, was an odd ohm rating - 4? So I had to order from MTH. It wasn't very expensive.

Thanks for the quick replies fellas!
Is the audio amp a repair that could be accomplished by a novice? Price for the amp?
