PS3/2 install - not working-

I can only suggest that if you don't have a test rig for this board, you should make one out of the engine temporarily. Can you unplug anything that doesn't matter and just go with motor and pickup connections? Have you probed for shorting?

 Sounds like a direct short but the fact that DCS finds it is interesting to me. I would think it could have a programming problem. I would lean more towards you have something just wired wrong. A board test would get to the issue faster rather than looking everywhere. I wouldn't power up again until tested.

Bill,  Did you test it in test fixture first?

 

Take the board out of the plastic holder and separate the two.  Firmly reseat the two boards ensure no cap is preventing or pressing up on the top board. (I have had to reglue them on some boards).

 

Once done, reinsert in bracket but with pressure to keep boards connected.  Once in bracket use tape to wrap the boards (similar to old PS-1).  Retest.  G

I agree with George, I test them and load the sound files on the test set, then install them in the engine when I know they're working.  I'd get it working on the test set first, then reinstall it.

you nailed it, the Caps were pushing up on the board and the two were separated. 

 

I put it in the test fixture and the same result, checked the boards, secured with tape and walla... it works...

Where do you guys get the test fixture from? MTH or is it something home made?

The test fixtures are available from MTH only for Authorized Service Center  Technicians to purchase. 

Here's the test sets, top is PS/2 and LocoSound, bottom is PS/3.

 

 

You are welcome.  Make sure you order an extra plastic bracket.  They are quite brittle and you never know when they will crack/chip.  I have had 2 so far.  G

I have done two of that same locomotive.  Placement is the key.  Glad you are OK.
