Hello ,

I guess  this question is going out to my fellow MTH techs out there.

I installed my first PS3/2 board in a Premier PRR Q2.  The engine worked fine, the 5v board had an issue that the sound was very low, everything else in the engine worked perfectly.

I installed the board, I loaded the current chain files sent in the last asc update with the 2.34 loader.  I installed the 3v sound file

Now here is my problem

Engine will be found with the DCS

No speed control (at 3 miles per hour the engine takes off)

no lights

no sound

no smoke

will not work conventionally

Any guidance will be appreciated

thanks in advance

Bill

I think you are better trained than I am. I imagine G or someone will help here.

I can only suggest that if you don't have a test rig for this board, you should make one out of the engine temporarily. Can you unplug anything that doesn't matter and just go with motor and pickup connections? Have you probed for shorting?

Sounds like a direct short but the fact that DCS finds it is interesting to me. I would think it could have a programming problem. I would lean more towards you have something just wired wrong. A board test would get to the issue faster rather than looking everywhere. I wouldn't power up again until tested.

Bill,  Did you test it in test fixture first?

Take the board out of the plastic holder and separate the two.  Firmly reseat the two boards ensure no cap is preventing or pressing up on the top board. (I have had to reglue them on some boards).

Once done, reinsert in bracket but with pressure to keep boards connected.  Once in bracket use tape to wrap the boards (similar to old PS-1).  Retest.  G

you nailed it, the Caps were pushing up on the board and the two were separated.

I put it in the test fixture and the same result, checked the boards, secured with tape and walla... it works...

thanks ..

You are welcome.  Make sure you order an extra plastic bracket.  They are quite brittle and you never know when they will crack/chip.  I have had 2 so far.  G
