A few observations with the PS3 Imperial Mikado I thought I'd post about. I'm very happy MTH stepped up and offered the "proper" sound file for the Long Island engine as well.
The biggest observation I have it how much slower it runs than everything else (in conventional, haven't run it in DCS), even other PS3 engines. I hope there isn't an issue here...Running it with another PS3 0-6-0 at about 1/2 throttle on a Z1K keeps them about 10" apart and slowly widening. Even my new PS3 ES44 is much faster than the Mikado. Is this a matter of how the engine is geared?
Another thing is while running, if pressing the direction button the engine does not coast to a stop. It instantly stops. I had my Imperial ES44 do this but after about a week, started coasting. I haven't had any other engine act this way...it has a flywheel but....any idea? No big deal I hope....?
Overall, I'm very happy with the engine. I also thought the paint on the engine was interesting - almost a satin finish and feel with the tender a bit more on the glossy side. BTW - the tender looks great. I especially like those marker lights and doghouse on the tender. So far, really glad I bought this one. I've got a matching caboose waiting for me at the LHS as well.
