I found a #610 postwar NW-2 in a local flee market for $35.  Once home, I found a burnt slap-up motor.  My junk tub holds a Pullmore motor and truck from a 1973 Lionel GP-7.  Assuming this is possible, do I reuse the PW 3 position E-unit or do I need the 70's electric version?   I really wanted a NW-2 on my layout.  I'll settle for a working Franken-engine.

If the 1973 motor will fit in the early PW motor truck the mechanical E unit will work fine.  The old mechnical E units will work with all pullmor motors.  It is seldom that a pullmor motor armature and field winding both burn up.   On your original PW motor are both armature and field burned ?   The reason I ask is these 3 pole motors are VERY EASY to rewind.          j
