I'm the same as Chris. In the past few months, I have cut back significantly including selling well over 2 dozen pieces of rolling stock that I don't need, want, or use. Only a handful of piece have been kept with a few more to be listed within the coming weeks. Very rarely do I purchase new engines and rolling stock now.

I have always focused my engines and most rolling stock to a select number of "local" roadnames - C&O, B&O, PRR, WM, etc. I have cheated a bit and do have a BNSF SD70 as well as a set of NYC Subways and an N&W Y6B.

Yeah, man.  Sure...  I'm tryin' ta cut back...  I mean, I can quit any time I want....

Seriously, it feels like addiction sometimes.  The gift that keeps on taking($$$)...

Just yesterday I was in the basement, wondering "what am I doing with all this stuff" as I was rooting out a string of hoppers in order to assemble and photograph a CB&Q coal train.

Meanwhile, I wait for a couple of pre-orders due to come crashing in during the next month or so.

While I still enjoy model railroading in general, I don't enjoy is hauling out stuff from their boxes and putting them back because my layout can't handle everything at once.  (and I'm primarily in S scale where there's "nothing available!")

I have "thinned the herd" periodically and it helps for a while.

However, there are times I just feel like calling for a dumpster...

I stick to N&W, some Virginian and Southern.
So far the Crescent is the only thing I've seen worth a second look so my wallet is pretty safe. I don't plan on any diesels in the future.

After looking thru some of the catalogs from 2008 and before I'm not to impressed with much coming out now.

I am getting back into the hobby this past year. My father and grandfather left me a bunch of postwar Lionel items and I always enjoyed playing with them when I was younger. Now that I have a little bit of money of my own, (that I should not be spending). I have updated my pieces with a lot of MTH items. Last year when I got back in the hobby I wanted to buy a new piece (or two, three,or four) every week if I could. I quickly spent a handful of money and it caught up on me. I slowed myself down to focus on a couple of lines. I have now turned my focus on actually building a layout and getting rid of the carpet central. I am trying to stick to focusing my money on the layout but every now and again I want to pick up a new car or two. Just yesterday I turned down about $1000 dollars of spending on starting up a Pitts & Lake Erie line, though this was hard, I knew the money would be better spent right now in building materials. So I was happy with myself that I am trying to not spend money except to build the layout. Trains are fun and they are an addiction.
