1st question...is this set black or dark green?  I've read it's pullman green, but it looks black in a lot of pictures.

2nd question...the set only comes with a powered A unit.  Is there a way to buy a separate powered or non-powered B unit.  The only B unit I can find on the Lionel site comes in the two pack with a A unit (6-83601)

3rd question....does this run conventional or only in command mode?

Thanks

BOSSMAN284,

    1. I saw them at York last year and I thought they were dark blue. Maybe someone who owns them will confirm but they did look good.

   2. You can only buy an AA set of matching E units. If you purchased them you could run the two powered A units as a train or even all three A units which would look real sharp.

   3. Yes they do run in conventional but you will not get a lot of the Legacy features......running Legacy engine in conventional is like taking a shower in a raincoat.

Hey Boss,

The set is indeed dark Pullman green. There was no B unit produced for the set as the real OCS never had one. There was another A-A set produced in the same catalog so you could in run three A units, but no B unit. Set runs command or conventional and has a unique Hancock air whistle.

I've asked Lionel for this set for many years and with Ryan who is the director of production having a love of Conrail even stronger than mine, it finally happened. It's a nice set and don't miss the add on two pack with the research car and police department car.

Thanks for the info.  Just bought this set today.  Looking at the two pack add on know.  Is the dome car something they really ran, I like to keep things "prototypical" as best I can but even if they didn't have a dome I'm intrigued by the sounds car.  May also add the theater car when it comes out.

Thanks for the comments...

If you do a forum search, I have posted comparison pics of this Lionel OCS set to the MTH set, the Lionel is Pullman green with correct deluxe gold lettering. Lettering color closely matches the microscale decal set for this train as well. The ex ATSF #55 full dome and camera/ theatre obs is to arrive this Rocktober.

And NO, thankfully no B unit as the real deal didn't have one either. Missing would be the ex NYC baggage tool car. A Trainman baggage car with 4 wheel trucks would have to be kitbashing.
