I have an old stripped shell that looks just like the 736 Berkshire shell but I think it was on a small Hudson. It has a 736 type bell and whistle but a different boiler front. What was that Hudson's number if there was one and a little history would be great. Thank you Don

That boiler (it's "NYC-inspired") was indeed used on some small Hudsons, but not the ATSF-type small Hudson (such as 2055), which are very different top to bottom. The Berk-derived-tooling boiler has been used well into the modern, TMCC era - the Wabash small Hudson uses a version of it. Others, I guess.
Some of the small NYC/Berk/Hudson numbers were 2056 or 2065; I always forget which.
The experts here will enlighten you; a PW expert I'm not (and I just proved it).
Two of the small Hudsons that used the 736 shell were the 2046 and 2056. Also the 646. I think that's it.
The 2065 is the ATSF type with an integral steam chest and cow catcher.
you guys are on the right track, (no pun intended)......lionel's small or semi scale hudsons numbered 646,2046 and 2056 all use a modified Berkshire (736) boiler casting. they use a lessor expensive boiler front that is one piece as opposed to the multiple piece hinged boiler front found on the berks. 2046 was introduced first running up to and after the Korean war, during the Korean war, 2046 was re-numbered to 2056 cause it had no magne-traction. 646 was introduced in 54 and ran through 58
