A couple months ago I bought a NIB Lionel 783 scale NYC Hudson from 1984. It has a plastic coupler on the tender and I was wondering what part number die cast coupler I can use to replace the plastic coupler.

I think this has the possibility to work for you. You get the die cast truck, die cast operating coupler, and a pickup.

I have that die-cast coupler arm in stock if you want one. you just need to be careful pulling the push clip off the pin. If you are careful, you can re-use it. as far as the SOS board, yes, the foam will most likely be decayed. use 3M household double sided tape to replace the foam once you get the mess from the factory foam cleaned up........you can e-mail me at ....brianjnorcross@hotmail.com about the coupler arm...
Had this engine once. For all they put into remaking this piece a plastic coupler left something more to be desired.
Thank you for all your replies.

Lenny, kinda like in '64 when they put the 736W with plastic Timken trucks behind the newly released 773, with a PRR shell no less.
Is the plastic couple known to break?
