Question: Brake wheel and shaft on a Lionel Prewar 512 Gondola.
I have a beat-up 512 Gondola that I m bringing back to life.
Both brake wheels and shafts are missing but the stanchions are there.
Picked up a couple of repro brake wheels and shafts at a train meet, the brake wheels are the type to be soldered on the shaft (This is not a problem).
So mt question is how do you crimp the brass shaft in the two positions?
I was thinking of modifying a pair of side cutters by grinding the sharp edges making it round on both sides or modifying a pair of pliers.
Would like any tips or suggestions.
