I just took delivery of an used engine that had been upgraded by a technician. My normal process is to change the address and do a factory reset. Since this is a upgrade kit, when I do a reset will I lose the sound file that was loaded into it? OK I know its a dumb question. Next issue it looks like I need to replace the tach tap. So can I order replacement without having to get the whole kit? Seams to me Gunruner had posted an excel spreadsheet that had the tach tape but could not find it when I did a search.

I know the answer and so do probably 100 other guys on here. I guess you'll have to wait.

I probably know the answer too. Since I just had a brain fart on this, just want to make sure.
FWIW, I have a couple of engines that were upgraded by JDS Ltd. Never gave it a thought and both have had more than one factory reset. No issues with the sound files and I really can't conceive of how it would.
Thanks. JDS had done this one. Like I said I had a brain fart. Just needed to make sure.
Still need a answer about the tach tape.
Here's a couple of tach tape images that are shots of older and current PS/2 kit tach strips. I just print these on the gummed label sheets that are used for shipping labels with USPS and cut them to fit. I've used these a number of times. When you print, print them "actual size" from Adobe Reader.
The one thing a factory reset will clear is a custom engine name, you need the dealer loader to write a permanent engine name that survives a factory reset.

GRJ, why 2 versions?
I found them both in my tach tape variants, and I figured I'd post both of them. I think the "old" version seems to print a darker image. They both appear to be basically the same, the "new" one has the flywheel measurement strips.
If you print these on the gummed label stock, use your printer's "label" setting as it does a better job.
No, Yes. G
Maybe what's confusing is that an upgraded engine can loose or have it's name changed with a factory reset, I believe? OK, I'm confused now. The sounds remain loaded. The functions get reset to factory settings.
MTH sells just the tapes. You can print your own as well.
So no, & yes, from G, are the right answers.
Joe, Yes about the name. The permanent name is part of the serial data file. Only ASC with the dealer loader can read and load a serial file with a permanent name. So a factory reset may delete a name if the upgrade was just done by a consumer/consumer loader.
JDS did the upgrade. They would use the dealer loader correct?
JDS should have used the dealer loader.
I just saw this. The guys answered. You will have to ask him what he used to load. Someone out there who advertises on the forum can sell you tach tape. Do you know what size flywheel you have?
JDS should have used the dealer loader.
Again, yes they do. Both of my engines were renamed and neither have lost anything after multiple factory resets.
Not sure how we would know what JDS has or doesn't have, or whether that step was taken. Best to ask JDS. G

How many conversions has Jeff done for you?

Personally, none for me. I won the engine at a auction( dirt cheap I my add) Conversion work is pretty good. Only issues are that PRR U25Bs did not have ditch lights in the sixties. Front classification lights are in the wrong location. There are a few other things that need to be corrected but that's OK as it will be reconfigured and repainted to CB&Q 101.
None for me. My comment was generic; not addressed to you. I was talking to Doug. Just because you have loaded serial files for your upgrades doesn't mean a used resale had it done. G

Actually I think it was aimed at me. Only a fool would take you on.
I just talked to Jeff and confirmed that he used the Factory loader program.
No worries. Factory reset to your hearts content! G
I just want to thank G, Gunrunner, and Marty for chiming in. Its good to know that they are here to guide us non tech heads.
Yes we're lucky to have Marty, GGG & guns but it sounded to me like you only wanted them to reply . We all want to help. Maybe I was having a bad day.

You could have spoken up. No issues. I just wanted to make sure I got input from them. Because of this post I discovered issue with the JDS upgrade that's major if you do lash ups. Its in a new post. I did my upgrade first (the experiment )and will now work on the JDS engine.
